What is a VPN?

A virtual private network (VPN) is a private data network that makes use of the public telecommunication infrastructure(Internet), maintaining privacy through the use of a tunneling protocol and security procedures. The idea of the VPN is to give a company or a person the same capabilities at much lower cost by using the shared public infrastructure rather than a private one. In our case , we use a VPN to connect you to our servers in Europe and Asia.
We provide access to our servers trough two types of software, L2TP and L2TP IPSEC, both can be used from Windows, Linux and MacOSX and both are open source.

What is L2TP?

The Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP), an IETF standard based on the Microsoft Point to Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP) and the Cisco Layer 2 Forward protocol (L 2F ), provides remote users encrypted, multi-protocol dial up access to a specific network over the Internet.

What is L2TP IPSEC?

Internet Protocol Security (IPSEC), the most widely deployed VPN technology, is a set of authentication and encryption protocols developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), to address data confidentiality, integrity, authentication and key management in the IP networks. The IPSEC protocol typically works on the edges of a security domain, which encapsulates a packet by wrapping another packet around it. It then encrypts the entire packet. This encrypted stream of traffic forms a secure tunnel across an otherwise unsecured IP network. IPSEC is the primary layer 3 VPN.
